M/S NICMAR, The National Institute of Construction Management and Research (NICMAR), and Proventures Education and Consulting Services Private limited signed an MOU to further strengthen the Critical Chain Project Management practice within NICMAR. Currently, CCPM is being taught as part of their Advanced Project Management subject. With this collaboration, the students will be able to learn CCPM through ProChain Scheduler software.
M/S ProChain Inc supported this initiative with software licences for students and Proventures provided the training for the faculties. This software will be installed on all of their campuses on a selected number of computers.
Critical Chain Project Management adopts Goldratt’s Theory of Constraints ( TOC ) in Project Management Practice. This was initially brought to Industry through his novel “Critical Chain” and considered as one of the major innovation in Project Management post-PERT/CPM and Earned Value Management (EVM).
Proventures is one among few companies in India that offers a 360 degrees support on CCPM. We offer process consulting, Software through the partnership with M/S ProChain, Implementation, training and support.
CCPM assures cycle time reduction / Schedule compression by 15-20 more compared to any methodology in the market. It treats uncertainty as an opportunity rather than a risk and helps clients to complete projects with a significant short duration
ProChain IS one of the leading software solution provider serving fortune 500 companies. You could join tens of thousands of users in hundreds of organizations around the world. Proventures
will facilitate you through a free demo, pilot and enterprise level implementation and adoption. Get going ASAP with the critical chain!
If you are a regular user of Microsoft Project, translating your schedule into the critical chain is only a click away.
A Workshop on Application of Critical Chain in Project Management practices using ProChain.
Proventures Education and Consulting Services Private limited has delivered a two-day workshop on the application of CCPM using ProChain for the faculty members of NICMAR on September 26 and 27 at NICMAR Pune campus.
The two-day workshop was attended by 15 faculty members of NICMAR and the program is structured to develop an integrated project management plan, assess the uncertainties and build the buffer into the plan to baseline the plan. On the next day, the plan will be executed as per the script and the variance analysis and utilisation of the buffer are monitored using a fever chart.
The Schedule was built aligning to the best practices of PMI Practice standard for scheduling and Critical chain best practices. A hospital development project was selected as the case project.
The focus duration ( 50% ) confidence level duration was 230 days. Based on the range estimates ( Low risk and Focus duration ) the buffer was calculated @ 50% of cumulative range and the same was inserted as project buffer ( PB). With Project buffer, the duration was 283 days.

Schedule with Critical Chain and Project Buffer
The schedule built was discussed and optimized to meet the project objectives. The baselined schedule was used to execution. A script was prepared by Proventures to give a real-time execution perspective to the participants and was executed together by all the attendees. The following screen grab is taken at the end of execution.
As against the duration range of 230 (focus duration) to 283 days (low-risk duration), the project was completed at 265 days with 17 days of buffer remaining.
Fever chart is an important report that guides the project team all through the project to keep the focus on the activities. Below is the fever chart recorded at the end of execution
