Project Attributes

Till the fifth edition, PMI maintained two fundamental elements for any project (Temporary and Unique). In the sixth edition, the following three more elements are added

Projects drive change: Projects move an organization from one state to another state in order to achieve organizational objectives

Projects enable business value creation: in this section, the significance of creating business value through benefits is highlighted. Tangible and intangible benefits are explained with examples

Project initiation context: Projects are initiated within organization in order to respond to factors that are classified in four major categories.

Project Lifecycle

Project phases

Project Phase gates

The idea of product oriented processes has now been changed with a sub set called development lifecycle and this development lifecycle combined with project lifecycle can follow Predictive, iterative, adaptive or a hybrid models.

Each of the components are explained in detail

Tailoring

Since every project is unique tailoring is critical. This has been emphasized across the standard. This helps the user to adopt different methodologies such as Agile and align them with PMBOK

Project Management business documents
